One of the pitfalls of passive treatment dominated practice, is that you’re no better equipped to self-manage than you were at the start of your treatment and you may begin to feel complacent in your own rehab. Often times you might end up spending 3, 6 or even 12 months of ongoing weekly “tune ups” with little or no change in symptoms. This approach leaves you at a loss if you can’t make it to the clinic regularly, not to mention it ends up being a huge drain on both your time and your wallet.
Instead, look for a physiotherapist who may see you frequently in the short term but aims to give you enough education surrounding your pain, exercise progression, lifestyle factors and tools to self-manage so that they can eventually see you periodically to help answer questions, progress exercises or reassess if things have changed. Not only does this style of physiotherapy save you time and money, it gives you the power and tools to control your pain rather than let it control you in your everyday life.
Find a physiotherapist who goes out of their way to make sure you understand what the issues are and gives you tool you can use to manage them on your own.

Often there be will clues as to how a clinic runs that can be found on their website and how they speak about pain, treatment and their services. At the end of the day you should be actively seeking out good treatment because it’s what you deserve!
